So You Have A Bored Teen At Home?

Hot summer days, cold winter evenings, a rainy afternoon, etc. There are plenty of reasons why your teens would be stuck inside. While its easy to have them spend this time indoors on a phone or playing video games, this doesn’t spark their creativity, help them learn a new skill, or bond with the family. Figuring out what exactly to do that is fun, but budget-friendly can be difficult. That is why I created this list of indoor activities for teens. These activities are age appropriate, challenging enough to be interesting, and unique. I am positive there are going to be a few activities on this list your teen has not done before. Most of these activities teens and tweens 12+ would find engaging, but not overly complicated.

1.) Paint-By-Number

You do not have to be an artist to complete these kits and after you are done you have a masterpiece to frame and hang on the wall. Your child may decide they like to paint and start doing it as a hobby! If you already have an artistically gifted family you can always get a blank canvas and follow a free youtube painting tutorials online. There are hundreds of videos to choose from.

2.) Bath Bomb Kit

You can make your own bath bombs at home from scratch with this kit. This unique kit has all of the instructions and you just follow along. It is a great activity for the family and you have bath bombs you can use once you are done.

3.) Exploding Kittens

No kittens are harmed in this game, but it is seriously fun. It will bring out everyone’s competitive spirit and will have your teens wanting to play for hours.

4.) Crochet Kit

This relaxing activity is no longer for grandmas. Crocheting has made a come back to the younger generations looking for a creative outlet. These kits come with all of the instructions and are great for absolute beginners.

5.) Candle Making

This fun activity is sure to be memorable for your kids. This easy-to-follow kit allows you to make soy-based scented candles and tins that you can burn at home. This engaging activity is sure to get them off their phones and learning a new skill.

6.) Soap Making

Your teens are going to love making their own soap to use at home. They can pick out their own scent and use their own soap for weeks to come.

7.) Make Your Own Candy

Any teen with a sweet-tooth is going to love this activity. They can make rock candy, chocolates, gummy Bears, and more. This activity challenges them to learn more about specific heat and temperature, crystallization, measurements and conversions, volume, and weight. They can make their own “brand” of candy by choosing their own ingredients. They can decorate your finished candy with colorful foils, papers cups, and wrappers

8.) Make Your Own Nail Polish

I didn’t even know you could make your own nail polish until I discovered this kit. With this DIY nail polish kit, everybody gets to create their own, signature color. A bonus activity, after making the polish everyone can paint their nails after.

9.) Cook Something Fun

Break out the cookbooks or look on Pinterest and find a fun recipe (preferably a dessert or snack) and make it! Your teen will learn new cooking skills and you get a snack to eat after.

10.) Tie Dye

This was one of my favorite activity to do when I would go to summer camp. Pick a t-shirt or towel to dye with this comprehensive kit. there are so many designs to try!

Let your kids unleash their creativity with these kits. They can design and craft their own earrings that they can wear to school or pair with their favorite outfit. If you want an easier project go with the clay bowls.

12.) Moon Kit

Your kids can paint their own decorative lamp that they can use in their rooms when they are dry! This activity is perfect for younger teens.

13.) Painting Shoes

This activity doesn’t require a kit. Just a white pair of shoes (that you don’t mind getting painted), acrylic paint or sharpies. Find a pattern or design online and paint!

14.) Succulent Wall

Make a little garden that you can turn into wall art! Plant your succulents and design your garden, after a few weeks you can hang the garden up on the wall. Succulents are super easy to take care of too and can teach your teen responsibility.

15.) Origami

Relaxing activity is perfect for a low-key afternoon. This particular kit has interesting designs for your teen to learn.

Have a small or no backyard is no barrier to starting a garden. This herb garden is perfect for beginners looking to start this hobby. Once the herbs have grown your teen can use them to cook.

17.) Geodes

You do not have to be into science to love geodes. This fun, STEM activity will teach your teen about geology while they get to work with their hands and crack open some geodes. After the activity is done, you can display the pretty ones on a nightstand, dresser, or desk.

18.) Throw, Throw Burrito

This game is sure to be a hit with your family. This combination of a card game and dodgeball will bring out your teens competitive spirit and keep them on their toes. Only two players are needed for this fun game.

19.) Book Shelf Craft
